There is a new European Institute of Innovation & Technology (EIT) project that Oulu-based tech startups looking to expand into global markets can get involved in.

Q2Scale aims to empower startups to scaleup through real world validation. In this 2-month hybrid programme, which is tailor-made, top European technologies in the automotive, energy, supply chain, and sustainability sectors have the opportunity to receive a full package for international market penetration and beta testing.

Below is an explainer of what Q2Scale is offering to startups, the criteria for applying, and the timeline from making an application to participating in the programme.

What is offered to startups as part of the programme?

Startups that get chosen to take part in Q2Scale will:

  • Gain an opportunity to validate your technology setting to attract interest and fast-track global market entry;
  • Be equipped with the tools and expertise needed to efficiently conduct PoCs with corporations;
  • Forge connections with global industry leaders and unlock collaboration opportunities;
  • Connect with experienced global mentors and technological experts who will provide expert and tailored guidance;
  • Encounter ongoing opportunities for collaboration and connection to ensure lasting relationships beyond the programme’s conclusion;
  • Gain targeted insights from leading international players into trends in the global market.

What kind of companies should apply?

Startups from the Oulu region should consider applying for this programme if:

  • You have a solution in the automotive, energy, supply chain or sustainability fields;
  • You have a working product that is ready for beta testing and release;
  • You are seeking to enter a new market in Europe or beyond;
  • You are a resident of the EU or legally registered as a company in one of the countries associated with Horizon Europe.

What is the timetable of the programme?

There are four key steps in the programme timeline (subject to change):

  • Applications are open until the 21st July 2024. During the time that the application window is open, a screening process takes place. This involves interviews and in-depth evaluation.
  • The selected startups that can take part in the Bootcamp are anounced on 15th August 2024.
  • The Q2Scale Bootcamp takes place between September-November 2024, with an in-persons session planned for the 16th-17th September (destination to be confirmed). Travel and accomodation for this initial in-person session are reimbursed up the value of €1,000, subject to signing a financial support agreement with EIT Global Outreach.
  • A final Q2Scale event will take place in November 2024.
