Flying off the success of Icelandair Mid-Atlantic 2023, Icelandair and Visit Greenland have formally renewed a marketing partnership to promote and develop Greenland as a destination through the Icelandair route networks.

“This agreement will help to support tourism development of Greenland in combination with Iceland, which will benefit both countries,” says Anne Nivíka Grødem, CEO of Visit Greenland.

The two-year marketing partnership between Icelandair and Visit Greenland, effective today, focuses on developing interest and increasing awareness of Greenland through international media and agent FAM trip collaborations. The agreement will access the expansive Icelandair route network, which connects gateways in Europe with gateways in North America. There will also be an element of knowledge exchange on shared primary markets.

In October 2022, the governments of Greenland and Iceland signed a cooperation agreement in Reykjavik that focused on economy, climate change and culture. Sustainable tourism development falls within this portfolio. This is also good timing as two new international airports in Nuuk and Ilulissat are due for completion at the end of 2024 allowing for direct flight routes from North America, Europe and beyond. At the Icelandair Mid-Atlantic tradeshow in late January 2023, Head of International Relations Tanny Por from Visit Greenland and Director of Marketing Gísli S. Brynjólfsson from Icelandair met to draft the agreement.

Quote from Gísli S. Brynjólfsson, Director of Global Marketing at Icelandair:
“We look forward to working with Visit Greenland to promote travel to this spectacular country, just a couple of hours’ flying time from Iceland. It’s easy to fly from Icelandair destinations in Europe and North America to Greenland, via Keflavík, on one Icelandair ticket. As airport runways in Greenland are expanded, it will be a pleasure to fly more travelers to the adventure of a lifetime.”

Quote from Anne Nivíka Grødem, CEO Visit Greenland:
“Greenland has for many years already worked together with other Nordic countries to increase visibility in key long-haul markets such as North America and China. Interest in Iceland is very high and this partnership will enable greater visibility for Greenland as a whole. We look forward to collaborating together.”

Icelandair flies to 4 destinations in Greenland from Keflavík airport (KEF).
