🇳🇴 New economic report: Cruise tourism in Svalbard – 2024 impact
A new report reveals that cruise tourism generated a total of 361.5 million NOK in local revenue for Svalbard in 2024, with expedition cruises contributing the largest share. Here are some of the key insights from the report:
- Economic Contribution:
Expedition cruises contributed 235 million NOK to Longyearbyen’s economy. Conventional cruises contributed 112.5 million NOK in the same year.
- Higher Value per Passenger:
Expedition cruises generate a higher local economic value per passenger, linked to factors like increased passenger turnover and spending on local goods and services, including supplies.
- Economic Value per Passenger:
Expedition cruises contributed 8,090 NOK per passenger. Conventional cruises contributed 2,960 NOK per passenger, covering both passenger and operator spending.
- Average Spending:
Passengers on expedition cruises spent an average of 2,227 NOK each. Conventional cruise passengers spent an average of 1,886 NOK.
