CCRM Nordic is establishing a facility for the production of advanced therapy medicinal products (ATMP) in GoCo Health Innovation City in Mölndal, Sweden. These are a new generation of medicines based on genes, cells, or tissues that have the potential to revolutionise treatments for severe diseases. AFRY has been assigned the role of engineering partner and project manager.

CCRM Nordic is a non-profit organisation working to strengthen the commercialisation of advanced therapy medicinal products (ATMPs). ATMPs are expected to contribute to entirely new possibilities for treating previously incurable diseases and offering personalised treatments.

The new facility is part of Sweden’s national strategy to develop innovative and sustainable solutions in pharmaceutical production. As engineering partner and project manager, AFRY is responsible for the design and planning of the laboratory and contributes with expertise in construction, installation, and validation. The assignment also includes expert competence in the qualification of ATMP production according to current GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice), ensuring that the facility meets the high standards required for pharmaceutical production. The facility is expected to be completed in the second quarter of 2026, and manufacturing permits are estimated for 2027.

“Collaborating with AFRY is an important investment for us and sets us up for success in finalising the new facility. AFRY has demonstrated that they possess the expertise required in design, project management, and GMP, which gives us confidence that the facility will not only meet today’s requirements but also future needs in pharmaceutical production,” says Fredrik Wessberg, CEO at CCRM Nordic.

The laboratory has a flexible design that enables the production of various types of ATMPs and supports multiple actors in the development and manufacturing of these products. With AFRY’s specialist competence in technology and GMP, it is ensured that the facility meets the strict regulatory requirements to guarantee product quality and patient safety and that it is adapted for future needs.

“We are pleased to be the engineering partner for CCRM Nordic’s new facility. By supporting the development of ATMPs, we can contribute to new groundbreaking treatments,” says Martin Öman, Head of Division Industrial & Digital Solutions at AFRY.
