So far, known green transition initiatives are estimated to create close to 50,000 new jobs. A large proportion in northern Sweden.

The calculations show that the green transition initiatives planned so far in battery manufacturing would generate a total of just over 28,000 new jobs. In the mining industry, an increase of almost 12,000 new jobs is estimated. The car industry’s so far planned investments in electric cars could create nearly 9,000 new jobs. In total, the industry would create almost 50,000 new jobs, which is significantly more than previous estimates.

The industry organization Teknikföretagen’s new forecast includes both direct and indirect employment.

“The estimate must nevertheless be seen as an underestimate. This does not include the additional jobs that could be created by more investments in the green transition in Sweden, such as in the extraction of critical minerals,” says Mats Kinnwall, chief economist at Teknikföretagen.

The new report is made by Industriekonomerna, a joint group of economists from Teknikföretagen and Industriarbetsgivarna.
