This seed round was led by node.vc, a Nordic venture capital firm. We warmly welcome node.vc partners Andy Johnston & Henrik Tellving to the board.
After reflecting on two decades of talking to hundreds of customers and working with countless applications and platforms, we recognised a common trend: most software is designed with a domain-specific focus to address a singular, isolated problem.
These tools often trap critical data within their specific domains, making it difficult or impossible to leverage across other areas. This results in data silos, which leads to issues like data duplication, loss, inefficiency, inflated tech costs, poor decision-making, lost revenue, and a disengaged workforce.
But what if we could offer a powerful platform that does the heavy lifting for customers, enabling them to build custom applications in minutes, using unified data, without coding skills?
Alongside the consultancy business I founded 2005, Starhive co-founder Mathias and I launched Mindville in 2012. We developed a product called Insight, an integrated Jira add-on for managing IT assets. In 2020, we sold Mindville to Atlassian, but the deep understanding we gained about database design and the importance of providing customers with flexibility became the foundation for something much bigger.
In 2022, we started Starhive with the goal of creating a powerful and flexible database platform. After analysing competitors like ClickUp, Airtable, and Retool, we realised they lacked a scalable data foundation. Starhive stands out because we made data the priority from the start. We first identified and understood the common data requirements across various domains and built those into the platform.
Developing a drag-and-drop interface builder is straightforward. The real challenge lies in building one on top of a flexible, sophisticated, and transparent database—something we’ve successfully achieved.
The business value of a platform like Starhive lies in its ability to empower anyone, regardless of their domain expertise or technical skills, to create custom apps that enhance productivity. Starhive doesn’t dictate how your HR or IT apps should look or function. While we provide recommendations, we leave the final decisions to our users, understanding that every business has unique requirements.
With Starhive, everyone works from the same unified data rather than isolating it across different tools. This leads to greater efficiency, faster operations, improved decision-making, and reduced software costs.
Our focus now is to introduce this powerful platform to new users worldwide. This investment round will help us promote Starhive and continue advancing our platform, particularly in key areas like enterprise service management, asset management, and project management.
If there are areas in your business where you rely on manual tasks, spend excessive time searching for data, or feel a process could be improved, get in touch or try Starhive for free. Share what you love about it and where we can improve – your feedback will help shape the future of Starhive!
