🇨🇦 50 potential lithium mining sites located in Nunavik, company says
A mineral exploration company has identified dozens of “high priority targets” for potential lithium mining operations in Nunavik.
Orford Mining Corp. announced in a news release June 16 that it has located 50 potential sites over 455 square kilometres of territory.
None of these sites have been explored yet but Orford is interested in them after reviewing government mapping data and lake bottom sediment data.
The company said those areas are believed to have lithium pegmatite, a crystalized rock that contains spodumene, which can be one of the primary sources lithium.
Orford’s summer lithium exploration program begins in July.
Lithium is used to create rechargeable batteries for products ranging from laptop computers to electric vehicles, cellphones and grid storage.
