🇸🇪 58 million for new projects within the green transition

Luleå University of Technology has been granted SEK 58 million by Tillväxtverket, The Swedish Agency for Economic and Regional Growth and other financiers for two major projects in green transition, namely Green Transition North – smart energy systems and Green Transition North – circular economy. The projects take place in close cooperation with the industry within the green transition and what is important, together small and medium-sized companies in northern Sweden
“It’s so great that we received funding for these projects, which will be of great importance for the green transition. The main focus of the projects is circular economy and smart energy systems”, Karl Andersson says, professor of Pervasive and Mobile Computing at LuleÃ¥ University of Technology.
Extensive collaborations
The two projects are a collaboration between researchers and 15 companies in the green industrial transition in northern Sweden: LKAB, Northvolt, H2 Green Steel, Uniper, ABB, Hitachi Energy, SkellefteÃ¥ kraft, Pite Energi, LuleÃ¥ Energi, Bodens energi, Vattenfall, Ericsson, Hexatronic, AFRY, and Lumire. The project Green Transition North – smart energy systems are, among other things, about modern flexibility solutions and new principles for controlling hydropower. Green Transition North – circular economy has, among other things, a focus on digital product passports, i.e. sustainability data that enables circular products and business models, but it has also focus on the future’s 6G-connected industry, increased sustainability through modularization of products and circular business models. An important part of the two projects is to engage the region’s small and medium-sized companies and create the conditions for this target group to even better accept the challenges with the green industrial transition.
LTU Business, Boden’s development, IUC Norr and SkellefteÃ¥ Science City also participate in the projects in order to secure the important connection to the region’s small and medium-sized companies. The European Regional Development Fund, contributes 40 percent of the total budget and the rest comes from Region Norrbotten, SkellefteÃ¥ municipality, LuleÃ¥ University of Technology and participating industrial companies.
Hiring PhD students
Luleå University of Technology plans to hire 15 PhD students within the research initiatives Creaternity, SUN and the Arctic Center of Energy (ACE) for the two projects. The doctoral students will work closely together with participating companies as well as the small and medium-sized companies that connect to the projects.
