Press release from Launch Alaska

ANCHORAGE – As communities around Alaska grapple with the escalating effects of climate change, a local technology accelerator program supported by the U.S. Department of the Navy is preparing to deploy new solutions designed to help turn the tide. It begins with startups.

Launch Alaska’s Tech Deployment Track is searching for mid- to late-stage startups from Alaska and around the world who are looking to deploy climate-focused technologies in Alaska. The competitive, eight-month Tech Deployment Track – funded by grants from the Office of Naval Research and the Department of Energy Office of Technology Transitions, and supported by dozens of major Alaska businesses and institutions – focuses on decarbonizing systems of energy, transportation, and industry. Companies accepted into the Tech Deployment Track receive curated customer introductions, project identification assistance, and development support as they work to deploy technologies across the state. Successful graduates of the program have gone on to develop an award-winning microgrid project in Shungnak, support electric utility resiliency and renewables integration in Kotzebue, provide fleet charging solutions for Chugach Electric Association, and more.

Tech Deployment Track takes place in three sessions, with virtual elements and an in-person kickoff and networking event in Anchorage starting in September 2023. Free and open to applicants from around the world, the program is currently accepting applications for its 2023 cohort.

“Startups are key to combating climate change and building stronger and more sustainable communities for us all,” said Isaac Vanderburg, Launch Alaska president and CEO. “We’re looking for the next great cohort of companies to scale inspiring solutions with global promise, starting right here in Alaska. This vast, awe-inspiring place is abundant with unique opportunities and shared challenges – a perfect environment for the deployment of new technologies that can truly change the world.”
