KLAK – Icelandic Startups invited to an event in Gróska on the occasion of the business accelerator Hringiða on the road Klak has now begun its march for the third time. The theme of the event was food production in the field of the circular economy and guests were invited to refreshments with the products of the innovative company VAXA and Collab drinks from Ölgerðin.

Kolfinna Kristínardóttir, project manager of Hringiða, opened the event to a great celebration of the attendees in Gróska, but she welcomed everyone to hear the first talk of the event. Andri Björn Gunnarsson from the innovation company and the high-tech greenhouse VAXA gave a talk on the development and future of VAXA, but new production technologies, i.e. vertical farming, so-called vertical agriculture that takes place indoors, were reviewed.

Davíð Sigurðsson, brand manager at Ölgerðin, one of the sponsors of Hringiða, reviewed the product’s development of the drink based on Icelandic ingenuity. This is a sugar-free drink with added collagen, which is made from by-products Icelandic seafood, in collaboration with FEEL Iceland.

Start-ups participating in Hringiðu gave a presentation of their projects at the event placing all their weight on the circular economy, highlighting, promoting and supporting new technologies and methods that truly solve emerging environmental challenges. The teams that presented their projects are as follows:

Mar Eco stands for Marine Ecological Solutions and the goal is to work on environmentally friendly solutions in the production and use of fishing gear.

Orb develops technology to measure forest carbon sequestration in a cheap and accessible way to promote responsible carbon offsetting and production of certified carbon units.

RVK Tool Library’s recollection provides communities with fair and financial access to tools and other items.

Resea Energy is a research and development company aiming to produce biofuels from seaweed from cultivated seaweed.

The accelerator is managed by KLAK, which for many years has provided assistance in the development of business ideas and brought together a group of stakeholders with value creation as a guiding principle.
