🇳🇴 Million Dollar Investment in Port of Tromsø
“The government wants more coastal development and sea transport. Government support for investments in efficient and environmentally friendly ports is a very effective tool. Here, the state can contribute to realizing good port projects that improve logistics,” says Minister of Fisheries and Ocean Policy Bjørnar Skjæran (Ap).
For 2023, 24 projects have applied for funding, and all have collectively applied for more than NOK 400 million. Of these, the Port of Tromsø has been awarded NOK 12.5 million.
“The scheme has proven to be very popular. One of the first things the government did, was strengthen the grant scheme, which now amounts to NOK 98 million. In the revised state budget, we have increased the scheme’s limits by a further NOK 20 million,” says the Minister of Fisheries and Ocean Policy.
The Norwegian Coastal Administration manages the grant scheme. The money is distributed in two installments. Applications for one-year projects are processed first, followed by applications for two-year projects. The Norwegian Coastal Administration has now processed the applications for the one-year projects and expects to decide on the two-year projects by the beginning of July.
Tromsø is an important logistics hub in the north and one of Norway’s largest fishing and cruise ports.
