A senior U.S. State Department official has warned that Chinese firm Wison New Energies could face significant sanctions if it completes the delivery of a power plant to Russia’s Arctic LNG 2 project, reports High North News. The power modules are arriving in Russia after a lengthy, ice-covered journey across the Arctic.

  • Two of the three vessels carrying Chinese power plant modules have reached Russian waters, putting Wison New Energies at risk of U.S. sanctions for supplying the Arctic LNG 2 project.
  • The U.S. is working to block the expansion of Russia’s LNG production, with officials warning that any material support to the sanctioned project could lead to “significant sanctions risk.”
  • Wison New Energies claims that third-party logistics providers, not the company itself, are responsible for transporting the modules to Russia.
  • The U.S. has already sanctioned other Chinese firms, including Penglai Jutao Offshore Engineering, and multiple shipping operators linked to Arctic LNG 2.
