The projects that the government has now decided on are included in the national plan for transport infrastructure for the period 2022-2033.

Now the first longer stage of the Norrbotniabanan from Dåva, north of Umeå, to Skellefteå can begin construction.

On the iron ore line,Malmbanan, four meeting points will be extended. These projects have already been decided and will increase the capacity of the Malmbanan line between Gällivare and Boden by 30%. These are extensions of railway yards and meeting stations.

In Luleå, the passenger car park at Luleå C will be moved.

“The government is now giving the green light to several important infrastructure projects. These include the Norrbotniabanan, which is of great importance for both commuting and freight traffic. Skellefteå is currently the largest city in Sweden that lacks passenger train traffic. That will change now. The measures on the Malmbanan will significantly increase capacity, which is important for Swedish competitiveness and preparedness,” says Andreas Carlson, Minister for Infrastructure and Housing.

Planning is underway for the remaining section of the Norrbotniabanan, between Skellefteå and Luleå.
