Press release from Launch Alaska

Eight Companies Join Launch Alaska PortfolioSpring is in the air, and as we wrap up another successful season of Launch Alaska’s Tech Deployment Track, we’re proud to welcome eight innovative new companies into the Launch Alaska Portfolio. These companies are cultivating solutions to decarbonize systems of energy, transportation, and industry – and they’re ready to do business in Alaska.

As a result of going through Launch Alaska’s Tech Deployment Track program, they currently have 13 potential projects in the works with an estimated order value of almost $8 million. These projects serve everyone from local retailers to major corporations to regional utilities, located across the state from the North Slope to Dutch Harbor to Ketchikan and beyond.

We look forward to continuing to support these companies as they contribute to Alaska’s economy and deploy their technologies in communities throughout the state.

Energy

  • Sage Geosystems, (Houston, Texas, USA) designs and installs geothermal power plants.

Transportation

  • Avari Aerospace, (Cincinnati, Ohio, USA) manufactures drones for professional use educating and equipping the workforce, and leading industry-disrupting technology integrations for global adoption.

  • ElectricFish, (Fremont, Calif., USA) develops and deploys resilient electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure where others cannot.

  • ZeroAvia, (Hollister, Calif., USA), is building a zero emissions hydrogen-electric aviation powertrain; a fully electric propulsion system powered by hydrogen fuel cells.

Industry

  • Ebb Carbon, (San Carlos, Calif., USA) offers a technology that reverses ocean acidification while capturing and permanently storing CO2 as oceanic bicarbonate.

  • Fluitec, (Dordrecht, the Netherlands) converts industrial lubricants and hydraulics to Fill-for-Life(TM) fluids: reducing CO2 emissions and waste oil as well as saving money.

  • Ivaldi, (San Leandro, Calif., USA) provides software and services to heavy industries, enabling them to source locally manufactured spare parts on demand.

  • The Crop Project, (Brooklyn, New York, USA) is a regenerative ingredients business focused on sugar kelp commercialization.

These inspiring companies strengthen the Launch Alaska Portfolio in a variety of ways: They bring increasingly diverse executive team leadership, and expand the suite of new technologies accessible to Alaska communities.

As participants in our 2022-2023 Tech Deployment Track accelerator program, these companies convened in person in Anchorage in September 2022, then worked with Alaska mentors and built relationships with local businesses, public agencies, and asset owners.

“Alaska is unique in so many ways, and it was invaluable to partner with the Launch (Alaska) team in order to make a proper introduction to the state, as well as develop an Alaska-specific business plan. We loved our experience,” said Casey Emmett, CEO of The Crop Project.

Launch Alaska’s Tech Deployment Track is distinctive in its ability to connect startups with deployment partners, and it meant accelerated opportunities for the companies participating in this year’s cohort.

“The Launch Alaska team was thoughtfully and strategically engaged throughout the entire eight-month program, and their support has directly led to the pipeline development of numerous commercial opportunities for (our company),” said ElectricFish Co-Founder and COO Vince Wong. “(Participating is) a no-brainer for companies interested in deploying their technology in extreme environments and climates with urban and/or rural applications such as Alaska.”

With the addition of these eight new Tech Deployment Track graduates, the Launch Alaska Portfolio now represents 32 cutting-edge climate tech companies. To learn more about the Launch Alaska Portfolio, click here.
