🇫🇮 🇳🇴 FINNISH HEALTH TECH SOLUTIONS AND HOSPITAL DESIGN KINDLE AN INTEREST IN NORWAY

Business Finland invited a Norwegian hospital delegation to meet with Finnish health tech companies and to visit two new hospitals in Helsinki in March 2023.
Finland is at the forefront when it comes to hospital design and construction – many hospitals have boldly adopted the latest technology and data-based management is one of their strongholds. Finnish health tech solutions have piqued an interest in Norway, where eight new hospital buildings are currently under construction and five in design phase.
NEW BUSINESS OPPORTUNITIES WITHIN HEALTH TECH
The Norwegian delegation, consisting of the Norwegian Hospital Construction Agency as well as different experts from the hospital construction and planning department, ICT managers and regional health authorities, visited Helsinki during 23–24 March. In those two days they met 26 Finnish health tech companies, learned about Finland’s new welfare services and the modernization project of the Oulu University Hospital. They also had the chance to visit onsite at the Bridge Hospital and the new Children’s Hospital in Helsinki.
The Norwegians were very pleased with the content and extensive program of their visit. In response to the successful outcome, the delegation extended a reciprocal invitation to the Finnish health tech companies – numerous business opportunities and contacts sprouted as a result of this event. In fact, many of the companies that participated in the event reached out afterwards to thank us for the connections!
THE IDEA FOR THE STUDY TRIP SPROUTED IN TRONDHEIM
Business Finland’s contact with the Norwegian Hospital Construction Agency has been good and steady for several years already. The Norwegian Hospital Construction Agency is owned by regional health authorities and is responsible for planning, design, engineering, and construction of projects on a national level. The idea for the study trip to Finland rose when Business Finland visited Trondheim in the fall of 2022 together with a group of Finnish hospital design experts from Integrated Hospital Design Alliance (IHDA).
OPPORTUNITIES FOR SUSTAINABLE HEALTH TECH SOLUTIONS IN NORWAY AND EUROPE
There are more than 400 Finnish companies working within health technology – Business Finland aspires to support the companies that are interested in expanding to the Norwegian and European markets. We offer a program called Sustainable Growth for the Health Sector helping companies to reach these opportunities.
In Norway, the concrete business opportunities lie in hospital design and planning, sensors, IoT and different remote solutions in and outside the hospitals. The latter is especially relevant for patients with various chronic diseases. UK, France and Germany also offer prospects within the health technology sector.
