Naaja H. Nathanielsen has just returned from Copenhagen after a week that included a hearing on the future of justice in Greenland, an information meeting on the great potential of the raw materials sector and a visit to the Minister of Finance.

The hearing was organised by the Greenland Committee of the Folketing and dealt with the future of the judiciary in Greenland. Here, Naalakkersuisoq gave a speech focusing on the level of action and the need for an up-to-date area of justice that meets the legitimate expectations of the people of the rule of law. It was stressed that the development and direction of justice must be decided by Greenland. In this context, it was announced that Naalakkersuisut is planning a nationwide dialogue on the direction of justice in 2023. The speech can be read in its entirety in the attached document.

In cooperation with the Greenlandic representation in Denmark, an information meeting was also held for a number of ambassadors about the great potential for raw materials in Greenland. Interest was high and ambassadors from more than 30 different countries participated.

A recent report commissioned by Nordisk innovation, which is the responsibility of the Nordic Council of Ministers, shows that large parts of Greenland have great potential for the presence of critical minerals that are essential for the green transition. Minerals are typically defined as critical if they are associated with a high supply risk and have a significant economic, strategic and societal importance. The report also contains a number of recommendations on how nordic co-operation in the field of raw materials can be further strengthened.

“The close Nordic co-operation has highlighted what work lies ahead if we want to be part of the green transition. This confirms the need to continue our work to provide new geological data to the mineral industry so that the critical minerals can find their way from Greenland and into green energy.” Naaja H.
