Press release from the Iceland Ocean Cluster

This summer, Heida Kristin Helgadottir will take on the role of Managing Director of the Iceland Ocean Cluster (IOC) in Iceland. Previously, she served as the managing director of Niceland Seafood and was involved in the establishment and operation of software companies in Iceland and the United States. Heiða holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Iceland. Since the beginning of the year, she has served as a political advisor to Thorgerdur Katrin Gunnarsdottir, chairman of the political party Vidreisn. She was also the election director and executive director of Besti Flokkurinn and one of the founders of Bjort Framtid, both being political parties.

“I have long been impressed by the IOC’s work, as the cluster concept has proven its worth in the establishment and development of new businesses and projects. The IOC is built on a solid foundation and is in a pivotal position as a driving force in Icelandic society now that the emphasis is placed on the complete utilization of products and the circular economy. The Iceland Eco-Business Park in Helguvík is evidence of the ambition and vision for which the IOC has always stood, and I am proud and excited to add my weight to those of Dr. Thor Sigfusson, founder of the IOC, and his colleagues in increasing the diversity of Icelandic business life”, says Heida Kristin.

“There are exciting times ahead for the IOC, but blue economy startup activity has never been more diverse. It is a privilege to have Heida Kristin with us. She is dynamic and possesses a wealth of experience that will be useful in advancing the project and addressing upcoming obstacles ” says Dr. Thor Sigfusson, founder of IOC.
