Joint Viking military exercise begins in Northern Norway

The Joint Viking military exercise commences Monday in Finnmark, Norway. The exercise includes Norwegian, American and British forces.
The annual Joint Viking exercise takes place between Lakselv and Alta in Finnmark, Norway, mainly along the coastline.

The main targets for the drill are, according to the Norwegian Defense, to exercise crisis management and defense of Norway. The exercise lasts until Wednesday, March 15.
About 8,000 soldiers are set to participate in Joint Viking 2017, among them 700 soldiers from the United States and the United Kingdom.
