Norwegian Government Requests CSS for Northern Norway Railway
The Norwegian Ministry of Transport has tasked the Railway Directorate with conducting a concept selection study for a Northern Norway railway. The directorate is to study and present conceptual railway solutions between Fauske and Tromsø.
The study should be geographically limited to the distance Fauske – Narvik – Tromsø, with a potential side track to Harstad. In addition to regular public economy analyses and cost estimates, the Ministry also wants the Directorate to thoroughly assess the potential consequences for the reindeer herding industry, Sami interests, as well as climate and the environment, in its evaluation.
The concept selection study about a Northern Norway railway is scheduled to be submitted to the Ministry of Transport in the summer of 2023.
