Professor of Entrepreneurship and Innovation Sara Thorgren has been appointed Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Education and Quality at Luleå University of Technology. Professor Thorgren will take up her new post on 20 February. The appointment is for three years with the option to extend.

“I am delighted that Sara Thorgren has accepted the position of new deputy vice-chancellor at Luleå University of Technology and would like to take this opportunity to welcome her to the vice-chancellor function. She will have a vital task to perform in ensuring that our courses and programmes maintain a high level of quality, that we offer a range of courses and programmes that meet new societal challenged and that contribute to driving societal development forward. I am looking forward to our collaboration,” says Vice-Chancellor Birgitta Bergvall-Kåreborn, who decided on the appointment of the deputy vice-chancellor.

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Education and Quality is part of Luleå University of Technology’s central management function and has overall responsibility for organising and developing the University’s range of courses and programmes. As deputy vice-chancellor, Thorgren is responsible for ensuring that the University has a fit-for-purpose education organisation and up-to-date courses and programmes that attract diverse categories of students. She will have overall responsibility for systematic quality management and represent and safeguard the University’s interests in internal cooperation. She will also be responsible for collaboration with external strategic partners with regard to courses and programmes and the quality of education.

Sara Thorgren has been professor of entrepreneurship and innovation at Luleå University of Technology since 2017. She is a Master of Science in Business and Economics with a major in Business Administration and a Master of Arts with a major in English. The common thread running through Professor Thorgren’s research is how individual entrepreneurs act upon opportunities for reinvention and development. From there, she has studied a number of concepts, including passion – the entrepreneurs positive attitude and motivation to start and run a business. Thorgren has taught courses on organisational behaviour, innovation management and entrepreneurship and degree projects in the fields of innovation and strategic business development. She is director of third-cycle studies at the Department of Social Sciences, Technology and Arts and a member of Luleå University of Technology’s Research Ethics Council. Thorgren is from the village of Kvarnåsen in Västerbotten and has lived in Luleå for the past 24 years.
