The Government of Yukon has issued a request for proposals to study potential models for a Mineral Exploration Fund to support junior mining companies. Interested parties can bid on this project on the Yukon Government’s bids and tenders website.

The study will help determine how a funding model could be structured to address the needs of the industry within a northern mining context. The study would assess the best model for a Yukon-only context as well as a pan-territorial one, in partnership with the Northwest Territories and/or Nunavut.

The mining sector is a significant contributor to the economy of all the territories. In the Yukon, the mining sector provides well-paying jobs for Yukoners, contributes to our local economy and supports growth in the mining service and supply sector.

The Yukon is helping lead the way in the development of sustainable mining practices and the mineral exploration fund demonstrates a commitment to supporting junior mining companies in our territory. Focusing on the needs of the mining industry in the Yukon, and across the territories, will help us to decide on the best possible approach to creating an effective fund.
