In August, SpaceX successfully launched two Norwegian-owned broadband satellites. Those satellites are now in place and have been formally handed over to Space Norway, High North News reports.
- The fully-operational spacecraft will enhance Norway’s strategic capabilities in the Arctic, benefiting both its Armed Forces and NATO allies.
- The capsules carry specialized payloads for military and civilian communication, along with a radiation monitoring instrument for developing the next generation of Galileo navigation satellites.
- Space Norway’s subsidiaries, HEOSAT and Kongsberg Satellite Services (KSAT), will manage the satellite operations from Tromsø, Norway. With an expected lifespan of 15 years, the satellites will enable enhanced communication capabilities while benefiting from ground-support facilities established by KSAT.
