Startup Canada

On April 25th, the Kwanlin Dün Cultural Centre welcomed entrepreneurs and small business owners from across the Yukon for the Startup Canada Tour. The event featured informative workshops, expert panels, and inspiring keynote speeches, all focused on the challenges and opportunities of starting a business in the Yukon and beyond.

The day was a great sucess with a keynote presentation from Bob Baxter, President of Yukon Brewing, who shared his experience building a successful company in the North. The event also marked the launch of the Government of Yukon’s new private sector sick leave program, which aims to support businesses and workers during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Panel session discussing Yukon support organizations and resources that can be leveraged to build your new business.

Throughout the day, attendees had the opportunity to learn from successful entrepreneurs and industry experts on topics such as branding, supply chain management, and funding. We also had a chance to witness our members’ successes and participation in the event, including Karen McColl for interviewing The Honourable Ranj Pillai, and bootcamp alumni Natasha Peter, Teresa Ward, Ben Pereira, and Joline Beauregard, as well as Caitlyn MacMaster, Nicky Rosenberg, Barrett Horne, Shayna Hammer, and Lisa Preto. Special thanks to sponsors Myles Hougen from Yukon Built and Bob Baxter from Yukon Brewing.

One highlight of the event was the StartupGlobal Pop-up Pitch Competition, which gave entrepreneurs the chance to showcase their innovative ideas and compete for a spot in the national finals. The Top 3 pitchers delivered compelling presentations, demonstrating the diverse range of talent and creativity in the Yukon.
