The university and Region Västerbotten are strengthening the collaboration
Press release from Luleå University of Technology
By signing this letter of intent, Region Västerbotten and Luleå University of Technology intend to strengthen and broaden a collaboration that specifically benefits sustainable growth, regional development and skills provision, as well as research and innovation. Together, the parties will build sustainable structures for innovation and growth and reinforce the regional research environment.
“It is particularly important that we are able to strengthen collaboration as we are both in the midst of the green transition. Skills provision is a key concern if we are to succeed in achieving this objective and, here, both the university and the region have an important role to play,” says Birgitta Bergvall-Kåreborn, Vice-Chancellor of Luleå University of Technology.
With focus on the green transition
The present societal transformation – with the green transition, the demand for labour from emerging new industries and the need to secure skills provision for all sectors of society – places enormous demands on the flexibility and attractiveness of both education and the workforce. Among other things, this means educating, recruiting and retaining personnel with the right skills, matching the available workforce to needs and using the competence of personnel in a sensible and progressive manner. Digitisation is an important driving force that facilitates altered working methods and the division of tasks within industry, healthcare and society as a whole.
“Collaboration is the key to the major societal transformation we are undergoing. Together, we can develop northern Sweden into a shopwindow for the green transition,” says Rickard Carstedt, (S) Chair of the Regional Development Board in Västerbotten.
Potential areas for research collaboration include digitisation, energy, biomaterials and minerals. The parties are also keen to work for strategic investments in development environments that bring together health, technology, culture, learning and entrepreneurship to make the region more attractive, with the emphasis on the green transition. The research conducted within the collaboration must benefit society by promoting business both regionally and nationally.
