Values training for globalisation in Boden’s workplaces

Host training is now being offered to Boden’s workplaces. The initiative is part of the Care HERO BODEN project and is one of many efforts to meet the increase in international workers in the municipality.
The ongoing green industrialisation requires a large influx of people, not only in Boden but in the whole region. The move to the new jobs in Boden has already begun. Several thousand new residents are expected to move here in the coming years. In addition to new types of jobs and the need for labour and skills in the planned establishments, existing jobs are also growing. With it, the demand for goods and services, health care, schools, care, services and more will increase throughout the region. This means that Boden’s workplaces are and will become even more international.
Multicultural experience
Historically, the municipality of Boden has had a great deal of experience with many cultures in its role as a major reception centre for refugees over the years. In connection with the war in Ukraine, JobbCenter in Boden has received a lot of positive national attention for its working models for rapid integration and guidance towards self-sufficiency.
Their Care HERO BODEN project provides a unique opportunity to develop an effective partnership to match new citizens with employment or self-employment for more than a year. Some interventions are earmarked for people who have come under the Mass Refugee Directive, but where there is room for more, everyone is welcomed and some one-off interventions are aimed at the whole community.
Hospitality in the workplace
The specific hosting training that has recently started is open to all workplaces in the municipality of Boden who want support and assistance in the transition to a more international workforce.
“This training is for anyone who has or intends to employ someone who doesn’t speak Swedish,” explains Charlotta Lennartsdotter, Care HERO BODEN’s communications officer.
The training provides tools for better communication in the workplace, reduces misunderstandings, avoids duplication of effort and creates a better working environment.
In concrete terms, it is structured in such a way that the work group, organisation or supervisor who is to attend the training, meets with JobCenter’s training officer Ulla-Britt Lahti for half a day or as needed. Ulla-Britt has extensive experience of working with integration in the workplace and, in dialogue with companies, provides tools and advice for the workplace’s everyday life and working climate. She can also come out to the workplace and help with spot interventions if needed. Together, they identify potential problems and opportunities and create solutions to make the work as smooth and seamless as possible.
“If you do this, you have so much back. We work a lot with language and images. For example, our Swedish has a lot of small words that mean different things and can cause misunderstandings,” says Ulla-Britt.
The training is given as a half-day session but can be adapted as required.
