Today, on September 18, 2024, Visit Greenland and Air Greenland are proud to participate in Bradt Guides’ 50th anniversary celebration in London.

Press release: London, 18 September 2024

Bradt Guides is the largest independent guidebook publisher in the UK, and this milestone also marks the launch of Bradt Guides’ guide to Greenland – the first comprehensive standalone guidebook to Greenland from a mainstream publisher.

Anne Nivíka Grødem, CEO of Visit Greenland, expressed her excitement about this collaboration: “Congratulations to Bradt Guides for reaching 50 years, and thank you for promoting intrepid travel in a time like this and believing in the unique destination of Greenland. We are so proud to be in your portfolio among other adventurous destinations.”

This landmark guidebook is the result of a collaborative effort initiated in 2022 between Visit Greenland and Air Greenland. Two of Bradt’s most seasoned travel writers, Gill and Alistair Campbell, were hosted on an extensive tour across Greenland’s diverse regions. The globetrotting couple in their 70s have spent over 50 years writing about their adventures from around the world.

Katja Vahl, Marketing Manager at Air Greenland, shared her enthusiasm for the project, stating, “This milestone is a testament to the collaborative efforts between Visit Greenland and Air Greenland, and our shared work to develop Greenland as a sustainable tourist destination. Gill and Alistair Campbell’sdedication and expertise have resulted in a comprehensive guide that will inspire and inform travelers from around the world.”

With the additional invaluable support of Icelandair and Greenland’s local destination management organizations – Destination Disko Bay, Visit South Greenland, Destination Arctic Circle, Explore North Greenland, Visit East Greenland, and Visit Nuuk – Gill and Alistair visited every region of Greenland. Their journey resulted in three compelling and inspirational articles, and culminated in the first fully updated English-language guidebook to Greenland in decades. Published in July 2024, this guidebook supports Visit Greenland’s mission to distribute tourism more evenly across the country.

Reflecting on their experiences, the Campbells shared: “Greenland is unlike anywhere else in the world and it is a country that we have grown to love. We have been inspired by the culture of the Iniut people who have welcomed us into their lives. Visiting every region, we have been captivated by the pristine grandeur of Greenland’s spectacular scenery. Our hope is that we can now inspire others to enjoy their own adventures in this wild, beautiful and untouched Arctic land.”

Beyond the guidebook, the tour also generated valuable content for Visit Greenland and Air Greenland, including a collection of photos and an article on travel tips for senior travelers. As a significant portion of Greenland’s visitors are active travelers aged 60 and above, this content is well-aligned with one of our key target demographics.

Today’s Bradt Guides anniversary event is an unique opportunity to showcase the beauty and diversity of Greenland, and to network with top media and the travel industry in the UK.
